Frequently asked questions
What is covered by the SMART ALLOYS' Warranty?
All two pack lacquered SMART ALLOYS' work is covered by a 3 month limited warranty; if you are not happy then we will return and rectify the problem completely free of charge. Our No Fix, No Fee policy is as it says, we will not charge for any work undertaken if a wheel cannot be fixed. This will be normally known on completion of an assessment.
Is SMART ALLOYS fully insured?
Yes. We have specialist insurance for moving all vehicles, working on them and repairing the wheels. We also have public indemnity insurance.
What do I need to do as the customer to ensure that the work is undertaken effieciently?
All you need to do is supply us with a 240v power point at a distance not exceeding 50m, and the vehicles locking wheel keys where necessary.
How long does the process take?
Between 1 and 2 hours per wheel depending on the severity of the damage.
Do you re-balance the wheels afterwards?
Your wheels will not need rebalancing as we do not remove the tyre completely. The tyre is pushed away from the rim so we can repair the said damage. Once repaired, the tyre is inflated to the correct tyre pressure; therefore, as long as your wheels where balanced when we started they will not need to be re-done.
Why are Split rims quoted as being 'from' £60?
Split rim wheels come in many different styles, there is therefore a requirement to assess each wheel before quoting. For example, bolted split rim wheels are easier to refurbish than riveted wheels. The split rim wheel will take twice the time to re-furbish, hence the extra cost.
Can you repair bent or cracked wheels?
No, we don`t recommend straightening or welding wheels - the shock that caused the damage may have caused other hazards that cannot be seen by the naked eye. It is therefore always best to replace the wheel in this instance.
Can I use the vehicle straight away?
Yes. Once the wheels are on the car, the vehicle is ready to drive.
What is the repair process?
The wheels are removed, repaired, primed, painted, two pack lacquered, baked and the re-fitted to your vehicle. All this takes place in the rear of the van, thus allowing complete mobility. See 'The refurbishment process'
How do I know if my wheels are painted or polished?
Smart Alloys will come and assess your wheels completely free of charge to ascertain their type.
Can you refurbish diamond cut polished wheels to their original condition?
Yes, SMART ALLOYS will have the capability to do this in the very near future. To refurbish a diamond cut wheel, we will require your wheel for around 4-5 days. SMART ALLOYS will collect and deliver in all cases. We can paint a diamond turned wheel to achieve a different finish (will require all four wheels to be refurbished).
